Do you need a dog grooming license?

Do You Need a Dog Grooming License?

Another question I’m asked often is “Where did you get your license?” So many careers require some type of degree or license these days, so it’s easy to understand why so many people think pet groomers must have some type of license or certificate.

I think people automatically assume that groomers have some sort of dog grooming license because hairstylists need a cosmetology license.

Most people that I talk to think you have to attend a dog grooming school, and once the training is complete you are issued a license.

Some people even spend thousands of dollars on dog grooming courses because they think that when they finish they’ll have a license.

But here’s the truth: You don’t need a license to be a pet groomer!

What about becoming a Certified Master Groomer?

You don’t have to be certified as a Master Groomer before you can groom professionally.

The Master Groomer Certification (sometimes called Master Stylist Certification) is issued to groomers who have completed certain training courses and then passed a certain number of tests.

Even though you don’t need a license to become a groomer, some groomers DO become certified Master Groomers once they have the experience.

Again, you don’t have to be a Master Groomer to make a lot of money grooming pets.

What about a business license?

If you become a groomer and you want to operate your own grooming salon, you will most likely need a business license, depending on the laws and regulations of the town or city where your salon will be located.

For example, in the United States I’ve never heard of a state that doesn’t require some type of business license before a person can open a business.

If you open your own salon you need to obtain a business license first. In most cases, if you’re caught operating without a license, you will receive a hefty fine and then you will be made to obtain the license anyway.

Business licenses are usually not expensive. In my state for example, a business license only costs $80.

Since you don’t need a license, do you still have to go to dog grooming school?

Even if you attend a grooming school, you will not have any kind of legal license once you graduate.

Every grooming school I’ve ever seen will give you some type of certificate or diploma, but these are just an achievement award and don’t hold any legal weight.

As I discuss throughout this site, dog grooming school might not be the best option for you. There are a few VERY IMPORTANT steps you need to follow when choosing a school so you can be guaranteed that you will receive good, proper training.

I can’t say this enough: The key to having a great career as a well-paid groomer is not a certificate from a dog grooming school, it’s getting the absolute best training.

You don’t need a license, you need great training...

Just because you don’t need a license to become a dog groomer doesn't mean you can just pick up some shears and start charging people money to groom their dogs. To be a successful groomer and make great money you must have great training.

I have put together a simple, step-by-step blueprint that you can easily follow that will guarantee you the BEST training.

And you will also actually get paid WHILE you are training. Using my methods is much better than paying thousands of dollars for a dog grooming school.

Not only are you going to get the best training AND get paid while you train, but I’m going to show you how you can begin within one week.

"I want to send you this message and let you know how much your book has helped me! I have been at a salon in Atlanta for over 4 months and I’m having a blast! I get to work with some really cool people, plus the money is great!

To anyone thinking about getting into this and becoming a dog groomer, you HAVE to read The Pet Groomer. Don’t go to a grooming school, don’t look for any other books, just read it."
